I writing this Biomet hip implant lawsuit review to inform patients who have had various Biomet implants in place for more than 10 years and now running into problems with their hip implants. This article is a continuation of the article that I posted yesterday regarding metal-on-metal hip problems.

Metal on Metal Defective Hip Metallosis Settlement Update

The slow moving train wreck that we call the Metal on Metal Hip debacle continues to grind on. For the thousands of patients who were promised the latest and greatest hip technology but instead were sold a pile of scrap metal, and the significant risk of metal poisoning, there maybe light at the end of the tunnel.

There has been some success in resolving the lawsuits involving thousands of defective metal on metal hips. Some of the lawsuits have been settled and thousands more are still pending against the metal hip manufacturers including Zimmer (now the new proud owner of Biomet), DePuy, Stryker, Wright Medical and Smith and Nephew that sold the metal-on-metal hip implants.

The defective hip replacement lawsuits share similar allegations that there is premature catastrophic hip implant failure caused by metal cobalt and chromium release. The artificial hips are made of cobalt chromium alloy and the grinding action of the hip joint in daily activity causing the metal components to rub together, leading to the release of these toxic heavy metal particles.

Some of the lawsuits have been settled and thousands more are still pending against the metal hip manufacturers including Zimmer (now the new proud owner of Biomet), DePuy, Stryker, Wright Medical and Smith and Nephew that sold the metal-on-metal hip implants.

The defective hip replacement lawsuits share similar allegations that there is premature hip implant failure caused by metal cobalt and chromium release. The artificial hips are made of cobalt chromium alloy and the grinding action of the hip joint in daily activity causing the metal components to rub together, leading to the release of these toxic heavy metal particles.

The release of these metal ions , causing metallosis, damaging tissues in the hip area and causes elevated blood levels of these toxins.

Texas DePuy Pinnacle Hip Replacement Lawsuits

DePuy Orthopaedics is exposed to several thousand DePuy Pinnacle hip lawsuits, which allege defective metal hip design and early failure of the implant. The first federal bellwether trials for the metal-on-metal hip replacement system are set to begin in September 2014, in the Northern District of Texas in Dallas.

Biomet Announces Global Settlement for Metal on Metal Hip Cases

Biomet Orthopedics the manufacturer of a line of metal on metal hips, announced a global settlement late yesterday, involving the hundreds of defective hip claims.

The agreement settles Biomet M2a Magnum hip lawsuits brought in the federal court system. Biomet agreed to pay $56 million to resolve lawsuits alleging that design problems with the metal-on-metal implant caused patients to undergo hip revision surgery.

Biomet M2A Metallosis Hip Failure Cases Update

The federal judge overseeing the Biomet M2A Magnum hip failure lawsuits has denied a motion to dismiss the lawsuits based on federal preemption. Many plaintiffs have filed product liability lawsuits over early hip failure and metallosis involving the Biomet metal hip replacement device.

The plaintiff, Leslie Caccia, had to undergo multiple revision surgeries after his Biomet ReCap Femoral Resurfacing System and M2A-Magnum metal-on-metal hip replacement system prematurely failed.
